What is Botox®/Dysport®?
Botox®/Dysport® is a treatment derived from a purified bacteria protein and is deigned to relax certain muscles that can cause crow’s feet and other wrinkles, in order to give a patient with more youthful appearance.
What type of procedure is it?
The procedure itself is minimally invasive and can often provide quick results. Typically, the first procedure will take about one hour and involves a professional evaluation by our dentist. Following procedures can take as quick as 10 minutes.
Is Botox®/Dysport® safe?
With its natural origins and highly controlled refinement process, Botox®/Dysport® has been used safely for adults and children alike. Besides its cosmetic uses, it has also been utilized as a treatment for children with cerebral palsy.
How many units will I need?
This number can depend on your situation, but most cosmetic treatments of the forehead include approximately 50 units in a price range of about $275-$325. You will require more units if choosing to treat other areas, such as your eyes.
How long until I see results and how long will the results last?
Although some notice immediate changes, you will typically see full results in up to 14 days, and these effects normally wear off after 3-4 months.
Can anyone receive Botox®/Dysport® treatments?
There are some restrictions. Botox®/Dysport® cannot be administered to patients who are pregnant or breastfeeding. The procedure cannot be performed if you are taking the medication Spectinomycin. Also, if you have open facial lesions or a disease of the neuromuscular junction, the treatment cannot be performed.
Do the injections hurt?
With the use of small needles, the injection should not be too painful. There may be a slight pinching sensation, but typically icing of the area beforehand will eliminate this pain.
Are there any side effects?
Noted side effects are rare and often will only last a week. These can include bruising and tenderness at the site of the injection, headaches or eye drooping. If you notice any of these side effects, please speak to your doctor.
Is Botox®/Dysport® safe to use with dermal fillers?
Yes, the two treatments can be used together.
